Small works, a meditation on life in Central Queensland; a language of shapes and characters

01
Bits From Brisbane
Once upon a time I visited Brisbane every 3 months. This records, visually, my joy in being in Brisbane.
03
Blue Shadow Ladies
I have been creating these forms since 2016. My first foray into abstract art. They still appeal to me. I have quite a few of them.
02
Close to Beautiful
Beautiful is such a horrible word because it carries connotations, expectations and judgements. I'm happier being almost there.
04
Dipping In
Putting your toe is just to check the temperature. That's what these lovelies are doing. Happy to be doing it together.

Art from My Heart - Country Life

April 2024 Philosophically Speaking
Current Focus
I have a problem, a good problem. I am a prolific creator. But, I work best when goals and due dates are clear. Hence, at this stage, works for this exhibition, are in draft or development stages.
To give you an idea of the what and how I am thinking, the images included are a wide sample of my works:
1. sketches and works on paper;
2. oils and acrylics on canvas;
3. digital works that are created from works in 1 and 2 above, and my own digital photographs.

Group Art Show - Book Boutique Bundaberg
On now. Until November 7th. It is unusual to be invited to submit artworks to a group show, in a book shop in a country town. This is a 'thing' for the Book Boutique Bundaberg. It's my first exhibition in Bundaberg, central Queensland. Works I've submitted are all stories about life in rural Australia.

My Diaries Say ...
my art is a true reflection of my personality - dynamic, vivid and imaginative; yet quite happy to be an introvert. My exhibitions are a testament to my unique approach to my art, and my ability to capture the beauty of everyday life in ways others may not recognize. Mesmerizing and joyful in their own way." Her works are sometimes startling, but always visually stunning and full of life," from one of my collectors. Or, contact me for a one-one conversation, or just to find out where you can find my works today.

Other Things I've Done
Artist /// Poet /// Author /// Tutor

Artist in residence events in My Rhupus Life art exhibition. For me, Art Heart and Health fit snugly together, like the shell around an egg.
Workshop: You can tell a little. You can tell a lot. Or, you can just listen. As we talk and listen we can create some art. They're all on the agenda because when we engage in art, through our hearts,, it has to be good for our health. Surely. I've got some plans, but FLEXIBILITY is my middle name. You can be anonymous. You can adopt a pseudonym (fake name), or you can sign your work.

Poetry Helps ... Too
I've lost it all
One day in 93. i lost it all and didn't know it.
It was only pain. I was disciplined. Life was doable.
Walking and talking had been easy.
Now movement is slow and robotic.
Only when the feet stop and the darkness is stripped away
Can a conversation begin
Words. Missing. The brain is empty.
Not a thought. Not a word.
Tables become chairs.
Tommy morphs into Erica.
Numbers tumble like Lotto balls.
What the hell!
THIS is NOT doable.
I had been warned. If the disease doesn't get you. The medication will.
But. Nobody talked about the losses.
20 minutes. That's all I can manage.
Walk. Swim. Float. Scuba.
20 minutes. Then a days rest.
Hands no longer able to sew.
Hands chopping fingers not flowers.
Hands needing to curl.
Feet walking on glass.
My newly created ragged self is swirling down the plug hole.
LUPUS. Let me be

Granny Jen is Missing, a fable about Aussie country kids
For Middle School Kids - Short Story :)
Intro: This book is a personal celebration of the joy and strength of my husband, children and grandchildren. I'm writing a set of fables and fairy tales suitable for children. About, rural kids. And, 1. Australian native animals, a few farm animals and the farm dog - Tuffy the Wonder Dog who likes to know where everyone is. He will often sit exactly half way between Granny Jen and Ben.
The book was published by Balboa Press (Dec 2017) and is available on all major seller sites, as well as Balboa (for bulk purchases). I wrote the book for my grandchildren, as part of the legacy/story I will leave them with.

The UnFinished Novel
Seeing Me Sweetly
Seeing Me Sweetly is my, Jennifer M Ryan's first novel. Chapter one is now available as a Kindle Book.
I wrote this book to explore critical points in the life of children born in the 1950s. Through my eyes I hope you will see both the mystery and magic, some awakenings through love and loss, as well as observations based on hidden injustices of the time.
The book shares life stories that move from powerlessness and panic to independence and strength; for both mother and daughter. There are moments where you can feel either or both of them soaring to the skies with great expectations, and plumbing to the depths of the darkest ocean with despair.
"School was my refuge. A small three room Catholic school serviced by three nuns, it demanded nothing of me that I couldn't handle. In the early years, I remember coming home to afternoon tea and a drink in a clean house and a noisy radio. Something changed before I turned seven. From then on, I hated the final bell of the day."
